PERSONAL PROFILE: Daniel R. Samuels
I have been licensed to practice architecture in the State of Louisiana since 1995. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, I received my architectural education at the University of Oregon (Eugene) and Tulane University. (B. Arch., Tulane University, 1985).
While in school, and for an extended period following graduation from architecture school, I worked in construction as a laborer and carpenter’s helper. It was my privilege to receive hands-on experience, working alongside some of the city’s finest traditional artisans, on projects involving the repair, restoration, and adaptive reuse of a number of New Orleans’ oldest buildings.
This experience and training laid the foundation for my approach to architectural practice-an approach that is grounded in the importance of communication, an attention to detail, a thorough knowledge of materials and construction assemblies, and a commitment to creating architecture that responds to its place and time, generates a sense of delight, and that resolves clients’ needs within their budget.
